Hon. Hesha Withanage,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious & Cultural Affairs and Minister of Urban Development & Housing,—
(a) Is he aware that Ratnapura and suburbs of Ratnapura district have become a hub for illicit drugs and the distribution network that targets students and youth is still in operation scot-free?
(b) Separately, will he inform this House—
(i) of the number of raids carried out to seize illicit drugs;
(ii) of the number of persons arrested on crimes related to drugs; and
(iii) of the value of illicit drugs seized;
within Ratnapura district within last two years?
(c) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether a list of identified illicit drugs and the countries they are smuggled from will be submitted; and
(ii) whether measures will be taken to eradicate drugs menace from the area by taking immediate legal action against the aforesaid illegal drug racketeers?
(d) If not, why?
