0124/2020: Air Vice Marshal fraudulently obtained vehicle permit

Hon. Bimal Rathnayake,— To ask the Minister of Mahaweli, Agriculture, Irrigation and Rural Development and Minister of Internal Trade, Food Security and Consumer Welfare and State Minister of Defence,—

(a) Is he aware that—

(i) Mr. K. T. B. P. Jayampathi who functional as Air Vice Marshal of Sri Lanka Air force, having obtained a permit on 08.01.2008 for the import of a car on concessionary basis had got his vehicle released from the Customs;

(ii) though the said officer can obtain another car on concessionary basis only after five years, having submitted an application again for the import of a car on concessionary basis on 14.01.2011 with the recommendation of the then commander of the Air force and the  Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, he had obtained the relevant permit on 07.06.2011 and imported a motor car; and

(iii) he has thus violated the provisions of circulars?  

(b) Will he inform this House—

(i) the legal action constituted against this officer; and

(ii) the legal action constituted against the then Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and the commander of the Air force for issuing recommendations for the import of a motor car under the concessionary basis in breach of the regulations of the relevant circulars?

(c) If not, why?
