Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam,— To ask the Minister of Education,—
(a) Will he state separately the number of vacancies allocated in 2010 and 2011 in the first 50 schools that admit students to Grade Six based on the marks scored at the Grade 5 scholarship examination, for the students who had passed the scholarship examinations held in 2009 and 2010?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether the number of vacancies allocated in 2011 for the students who had passed in 2010 has dropped in comparison to the number allocated out of Grade 6 for the students who had passed the examination in 2009, in all the said schools or in some of them ;
(ii) of the reasons for that, if there is such a drop ;
(iii) whether steps will be taken to allocate in 2011 at least the number of vacancies allocated in 2010, if there is a drop in the number of vacancies in Grade 6 ; and
(iv) of the measures that will be taken to maintain the number of vacancies allocated by the popular schools in the island for the students who pass the scholarship examination without a drop in future with a view to ensure the free education policy?
(c) If not, why?
