0831/’10 Hon. Victor Antony,— To ask the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development,— Is he aware that,- fish resources have depleted as a result of the destruction of fingerlings owing to the use of banned fishing nets for fishing in the sea water and lagoons ; and as a result, fishermen are unable to harvest a sufficient catch ; Will he state,- the programmes that are expected to be implemented to seize all banned fishing nets currently in use and eradicated the use of banned fishing nets permanently ; and the measures taken so far to prevent the use of banned nets and destroy them? Will he inform this House,- of the measures that are to be taken to increase the sea water and lagoon fish stocks ; of the measures that have been taken to protect and develop the natural fish breeding centres destroyed as a result of banned and irregular fishing nets ; and whether it is intended to mark off special zones for fish breeding? If not, why?
