Hon. Indika Anuruddha Herath,— To ask the Minister of Finance,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the number of private Financial Institutions engaged in business activities actively in the country;
(ii) of the total capital owned by aforesaid institutions;
(iii) of the manner in which such capital was raised;
(iv) of the institution authorized to monitor the financial activities of aforesaid institutions; and
(v) whether the monitoring process is carried out satisfactorily?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether the allocations have been made from the General treasury in 2016/2017 to compensate the shareholders of the ETI Finance, a private financial institution;
(ii) if so of aforesaid amount;
(iii) of the alternative methods that can be adopted in delivering justice to the clients who invested in Private financial institutions; and
(iv) whether he accepts the fact that it sets a wrong precedence when the clients who invested in private financial institutions are compensated using public funds?
(c) If not, why?
