0779/2011: Ladies work abroad as housemaids and in Garment Factories

0779/’10 Hon. (Mrs.) Anoma Gamage,— To ask the Minister of External Affairs,— Will he state — the number of Sri Lankan women serving in foreign countries as house-maids or garment factory workers ; the number of persons who have been subjected to various kinds of torture, out of the number of women mentioned in the answer for (a) (i) above; the number of women who have returned to this country due to this reason and the number of women still remaining in those countries, separately ; the steps that are taken to bring back the women who remain in foreign countries while being subjected to torture ? Will he submit to this House — the number of women who have been paid compensation, out of the women who have returned to this country as a result of being subjected to torture; the total amount paid as compensation in this manner ; the measures taken by the Foreign Employment Bureau on behalf of the women who remain abroad being subjected to torture and those who have returned ? If not, why ?
