0539/2019: MR. S. K. D. HEWAPATHIRANA: SERVICE EXTENSION

539/’19

Hon. Bimal Rathnayake,— To ask the Minister of Finance,—

(a) Is he aware that—

(i) Service Extensions are granted up to 60 years of age according to the service extension policy of the People’s Bank;

(ii) this policy of granting Service extensions is used by the management of the Bank to suppress the trade union leaders who exposed corruption in the Bank;

(iii) accordingly, the release that had been granted to Mr. S. K. D. Hewapathirana the former President of the People’s Bank branch of the Lanka Bank employees association who demanded a transparent investigation on the digitalization of the Peoples Bank was cancelled at first;

(iv) subsequently, the management has made arrangements to send him on retirement without granting the extension of service sought by him; and

(v) the investigation demanded by him too was not conducted?

(b) Will he inform this House—

(i) whether the Service Extension sought by Mr. Hewapathirana would be granted;

(ii) if so, when; and

(iii) whether the investigation demanded by Mr. Hewapathirana would be conducted?

(c) If not, why?
