Hon. Indika Anuruddha Herath,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Livestock Development, Irrigation and Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the total extent of paddy land in hectares cultivated in the Western Province during the first season of year 2018;
(ii) of the total extent of fallow paddy land in hectares which remained without being cultivated in the Western Province; and
(iii) of the number of metric tons of paddy yield lost to the country as a result of the abovementioned fallow paddy lands?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the number of hectares of paddy lands which were cultivated but were subjected to crop damage;
(ii) of the action taken to ensure non recurrence or reduce of such crop damages; and
(iii) the date on which compensation will be paid to farmers who were rendered destitute as a result of crop damage?
(c) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether permission is granted to use for other purposes, the paddy fields which are not used for cultivation;
(ii) if so, whether feasibility studies in this regard have been carried out; and
(iii) of the contents of such feasibility studies?
(d) If not, why?
