Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara,— To ask the Minister of Finance,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether the Sri Lanka Customs arrested three persons including Malaysian businessman Jayasudheer Jayaram, who were Kuala Lumpur bound on a day in November 2016, on the charges of smuggling money out of the country;
(ii) if so, the amount of money that was in their possession while the arrest was made; and
(iii) of the legal action taken against them?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether the arrested persons were released even before the investigations were over allowing them to travel to Kuala Lumpur;
(ii) if so, who gave permission in this regard;
(iii) whether the relevant investigation has been carried out without the presence of those persons;
(iv) whether the relevant files are with the Ministry of Finance at present;
(v) whether the seized money has been released to those persons;
(vi) if not, in which institution the money has been deposited; and
(vii) whether the custom officials involved in this investigation have been awarded cash prizes?
(c) If not, why?
