Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara,— To ask the Minister of Justice & Prison Reforms,—
(a) Will she inform this House—
(i) of the number of inmates incarcerated at present under sentence to death;
(ii) of the number of inmates who were granted pardon and released out of those convicted to death , as per each year from 2010 up to now;
(iii) whether the system of granting amnesty through the review of a period of 4 or 8 years to those imprisoned for life upon being sentenced to death which was implemented during the period that capital punishment was abolished is still operative;
(iv) if not, the reasons for that;
(v) whether those who had served a longer term of the same punishment with good behavior were not granted pardon in granting pardon to those sentenced to death; and
(vi) if not, the reasons for that?
(b) If not, why?
