Main Business of the House for Today
The following Motions (appearing as Item No. 1 to 4 of today’s Order Paper) were moved by the House and Passed:-
Prevention of using images of religious leaders for commercial purposes
That this Parliament resolves that all religions must equally be respected and that images of Lord Buddha, Jesus Christ, Lord Shiva or Prophet Mohammed should not be used on any commercial advertisement or any other form of non religious items.
Solving the problems created by the Tsunami disaster
That this Parliament resolves that an efficient programme be implemented to look into any kind of problem caused by the Tsunami disaster and remains unsolved, at Divisional Secretariat Division and District Secretariat Division level and to minimize such problems faced and to be faced by those Divisions.
Establishment of a “Sister School Programme” for a Trilingual Sri Lanka
That this Parliament resolves that developing a ten year National Strategic Framework for a Trilingual Sri Lanka is a landmark measure for national integration and social harmony, steps be taken by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of National Languages and Social Integration to link individual schools in majority Sinhala speaking areas with Tamil medium schools in a “Sister School Programme” for the exchange of students and teachers on short term exposure programmes.
Formulation of a National Programme on Early Childhood Education
That this Parliament resolves that a national programme be formulated on providing early childhood education (pre-school education) which is a very important stage in the process of education of the children of our country and also, a proper training programme, a method of recruitment along with a salary structure be formulated for pre school wardens.
Second Reading of the following Bills (appearing as Item Nos. 119 to 122 of today’s Order Paper) were moved by the House and referred to the Standing Committees (Legislative):-
(i) Casimi Foundation (Incorporation) – Standing Committee “A”
(ii) Roshan Ranasinghe Janasahana Foundation (Incorporation) – Standing Committee “A”
(iii) Ceylonese Brothers of St. Joseph (Amendment) – Standing Committee “B”
(iv) Ranjith Aluvihare Foundation (Incorporation) – Standing Committee “A”
The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1705 Hrs. until 1300 Hrs. on Tuesday 23rd October 2012.
