Business of the House


Presentation of Bills

The Hon. Prime Minister and Minister of Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs moved the following Bills:-

1. Revival of Underperforming Enterprises and Underutilized Assets

(to provide for vesting in the State in the national interest, identified underperforming enterprises or underutilized assets; to appoint in respect of each one or more of such underperforming enterprises or underutilized assets a Competent Authority; to provide for their effective management, administration or revival through alternative utilization and the payment of compensation in respect thereof; and to provide for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto.)

2. Town and Country Planning (Amendment)

(to amend the Town and Country Planning Ordinance (Chapter 269).)


Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (Amendment)

The Hon. Leader of the House of Parliament moved a Bill to amend the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka Law, No. 4 of 1978.


The Hon. (Mrs) Sriyani Wijewickrama was granted leave to introduce the Bill, entitled "Institute of Certified Public Accounts (Incorporation)".


Main Business of the House for Today

Following Items (appearing as Item Nos. 1 to 5 of today’s Order Paper) were passed by the House:-

• Notaries (Amendment) Bill
• Registration of Documents (Amendment) Bill
• Order under the Finance Act
• Two Regulations under the Motor Traffic Act

Parliament resolved that a Select Committee be appointed to discuss the Heads of Expenditure of Ministries selected from the Budget Estimates of the year 2012.

Thereafter, the Second Reading of the (Incorporation) Bill entitled, "Organization for the Creation of Balana Buddha Statue" was moved by the House and referred to the Standing Committee (Legislative) “A”.

Following (Incorporation) Bills (appearing as Item Nos. 8 to 10 of today’s Order Paper) were also considered and passed by the House:-

• Sri Dhammalankara Social Services Foundation
• Ramakrishna Sarada Mission (Lanka Branch)
• Buddhist Cultural Centre of Nedimala, Dehiwala (Amendment)


Motion at the Adjournment Time

Motion at the Adjournment Time on “Investment of shares in People Leasing Company” was moved by the Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1913 Hrs. until 1300 Hrs. on Wednesday 9th November 2011.
