Business of the House


Hon. Speaker announced that the Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Irrigation & Water Resource Management has been appointed as the Leader of the House and the Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Water Supply & Drainage has been appointed as the Chief Government Whip of the Seventh Parliament.

Committee of Selection

House agreed to a Motion moved by the Leader of the House of Parliament that notwithstanding the provisions of Standing Order 121, the Committee of Selection shall consist of Mr. Speaker as Chairman and Seventeen (17) other members which shall include the Leaders of Political Parties or their nominees to be nominated by Parliament to serve during the current session.

Further, House also agreed to a Motion moved by the Leader of the House of Parliament that the under mentioned Seventeen (17) members do serve on the Committee of Selection in addition to Mr. Speaker who shall be its Chairman during the current Session, in terms of the motion agreed to by Parliament today;

Resolution under the Public Security Ordinance

Resolution moved by the Hon. Prime Minister, Minister of Buddhasasana & Religious Affairs that the Proclamation made by the President under Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40), as amended by Act, No. 8 of 1959, Law No. 6 of 1978, and Act, No. 28 of 1988, bringing into operation the provisions of Part II of the aforesaid Ordinance throughout Sri Lanka with effect from 02nd May 2010 was adjourned for Wednesday 5th May 2010.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1630 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Wednesday 5th May 2010.
