Hon. Kanaka Herath,— To ask the Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the number of elephants and tuskers live in the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage;
(ii) whether plans have been made to start another elephant orphanage anew in addition to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage;
(iii) if so, in which place it will be located;
(iv) whether elephants for the new orphanage will be obtained from the Pinnawala Orphanage;
(v) if so, how many are expected to be so obtained;
(vi) whether he accepts that the popularity, development and existence of the Pinnawala Orphanage can be adversely affected owing to this activity; and
(vii) if so, what measures will be taken to prevent this harm?
(c) If not, why?
