Hon. Niroshan Perera,— To ask the Minister of Industry and Commerce,—
(a) Will he state —
(i) the number of registered salterns currently in operation in the Puttalam area;
(ii) the amount of salt produced annually by the said salterns in metric tons; and
(iii) the percentage of salt produced in the Puttalam area as a percentage of the national salt requirement?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether government lands have been handed over under any state policy to salt manufacturing institutions;
(ii) if so, separately, the names of companies to which such lands have been given, the extent of lands given to each company and the government’s estimated value of such lands; and
(iii) whether special privileges have been accorded to certain companies when state lands were allocated for salt production ?
(c) If not, why?
