Hon. Thanura Dissanayake,— To ask the Minister of Defence,— (2)
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the procedure followed in issuing a firearm to a civilian on licenses;
(ii) whether the issuance of such firearms on licenses has been stopped by now;
(iii) if so, of the reasons for that;
(iv) of the date on which it is expected to issue the above licenses, along with the relevant procedure and criteria;
(v) of the procedure for obtaining security clearances to issue firearms on licenses; and
(vi) of the steps that have been taken to avoid delays that occur in this process?
(b) Will he also inform this House —
(i) of the steps that have been taken to amend the Firearms Ordinance in a timely manner;
(ii) of the date on which the Firearms License Fees have been last revised;
(iii) of the date on which the cabinet approval has been obtained for the said purpose, if any;
(iv) whether there has been any amendment to the fines payable for the failure to pay license fees; and
(v) whether there has been any amendment in the fees relating to the deterioration and transfer of licenses or to the repair of firearms?
(c) If not, why?
