Hon. (Mrs.) Oshani Umanga,— To ask the Minister of Defence,—(2)
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the reasons for the delay in the payment of widows’ and orphans’ pensions or allowances that are being paid to the widows/dependents of the members of the three armed forces who died in the line of duty;
(ii) of the steps that will be taken to prevent such delays;
(iii) of the salaries and allowances paid to the widows/dependents of the members of the armed forces who married after leaving the service due to disability, upon the death of the member;
(iv) if allowances are not paid to them, of the reasons for that; and
(v) of the steps that will be taken to pay those salaries or allowances?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) of the number of military personnel who are not entitled to 85% pension out of those recruited before 19.05.2009;
(ii) of the reasons for not paying the said pension entitlement;
(iii) whether he accepts that it is appropriate to grant them 85% pension entitlement; and
(iv) if so, of the measures that will be taken to grant the said pension entitlement to them?
(c) If not, why?
