1636/2026: LANDS OWNED BY DEPARTMENTS OF WILD LIFE AND FOREST CONSERVATION: MONARAGALA DISTRICT

Hon. Ruwan Wijeweera,— To ask the Minister of Environment,— (1)

(a) Will he inform this House —       

(i) of the total area of land in Monaragala District, and out of that area, of the portions owned by the Department of Wildlife and the Department of Forest Conservation, separately;

(ii) of such extent,  as a percentage;

(iii) of the criteria applied when a certain extent of land is brought under the purview of the Department of Forest Conservation;

(iv) of the extent of land in Monaragala District handed over to the Divisional Secretary by the Department of Forest Conservation in 2021;

(v) of such land, of the extent that has been released by the Divisional Secretaries on a long-term lease basis;

(vi) if so, the names of such institutions and individuals;

(vii) within this transfer process, of the extent of land held by the ‘Wandama–Demaliya’ Reserve and the extent of land released to the Divisional Secretary in the Monaragala District, separately; and

(viii) of the said extent of land released to the Divisional Secretary, of the extent that has been released on a lease basis? 

(b) If not, why?
