Hon. Kanthasamy Prabu,— To ask the Minister of Health and Mass Media,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House in relation to the Batticaloa District —
(i) whether the ‘1990 - Suwa Seriya’ ambulance service is operating efficiently;
(ii) of the number of ambulances that are currently in service;
(iii) of the number of ambulances that are not operating at present due to staff shortage or technical issues; and
(iv) of the steps that have been taken to provide 24-hour service in each Divisional Secretariat Division?
(b) Will he also inform this House —
(i) whether he is aware that complaints have been received from the public regarding the delay in the arrival of ambulances in rural areas of the Batticaloa District;
(ii) if so, of the reasons for that; and
(iii) whether a new methodology has been introduced to monitor and improve the speed of response?
(c) Will he further inform this House —
(i) whether there is a shortage of trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) in the Batticaloa District;
(ii) if so, of the steps that will be taken to fill those vacancies; and
(iii) whether it has been planned to expand this service by providing additional ambulances or facilities?
(d) If not, why?
