Hon. Imran Maharoof,—To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education,— (1)
(a) Will she inform this House of the —
(i) number of education zones in the Trincomalee District; and
(ii) names of those education zones?
(b) Will she accept that—
(i) schools in the Thambalagamuwa Divisional Secretariat are divided into three education zones based on ethnicity;
(ii) Muslim schools have been linked to the Kinniya Educational Zone, Tamil schools to the Trincomalee Education Zone, and Sinhala schools to the Kantale Education Zone; and
(iii) most of the schools under the Kuchchaveli Divisional Education Office in the Trincomalee Education Zone are located more than 50 kilometers away from the Zonal Education Office?
(c) Will she also inform this House, taking into consideration the geographical distance of the Trincomalee Education Zone and the ethnic segregation of schools in the Thambalagamuwa area, whether steps will be taken to create separate education zones for above-mentioned areas when creating new education zones in the future?
(d) If not, why?
