Hon. (Dr.) Nandana Millagala,— To ask the Minister of Energy,—(1)
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the number of small hydropower plants that have been constructed in the Yatiyanthota and the Bulathkohupitiya Divisional Secretariat Divisions, separately for each Divisional Secretariat Division;
(ii) whether legal permission has been obtained for the construction of the said power plants;
(iii) of the capacity added to the national grid by each of the said power plants separately;
(iv) whether the owners of the above-mentioned small hydropower plants are operating the power plants in compliance with the agreements for the protection of the ecosystem and the development of the social environment;
(v) whether all small hydropower plants are regulated; and
(vi) whether legal action is taken against the owners of small hydropower plants that do not comply with the relevant regulatory criteria?
(b) If not, why?
