Hon. (Dr.) Nandana Millagala,— To ask the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the contracted time for completing the renovation work of the approximately 120-year-old Yatiyanthota, Garagoda Bridge across the Kelani River;
(ii) whether he is aware that the bridge renovation, which began in September 2023 with restricted traffic, is causing severe difficulties for residents;
(iii) of the reasons for the delay in the renovation work of the said bridge;
(iv) whether the proper procedure has been followed in awarding the relevant contract for the renovation of the said bridge;
(v) if not, of the reasons for that;
(vi) whether the contractor company under contract has acted in accordance with the relevant contract;
(vii) if not, of the actions that have been taken in that regard; and
(viii) of the steps that have been taken to complete the renovation work of the aforementioned bridge expeditiously?
(b) If not, why?
