Hon. Mayilvaganam Jegatheeswaran,—To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education,— (1)
(a) Will she inform this House —
(i) whether she is aware that most of the buildings of the Jaffna College of Technology are at risk of collapse;
(ii) if so, of the urgent steps that will be taken to renovate the said buildings or construct new buildings; and
(iii) whether funds have been allocated this year to improve the infrastructure facilities of the Colleges of Technology in Jaffna and Vavuniya?
(b) Will she also inform this House of the —
(i) reasons for not incorporating hybrid or modern vehicle technologies into the automotive repair courses that are still based on 30-year old technology;
(ii) date on which the syllabus of the courses concerned will be revised in accordance with the current standards; and
(iii) steps that have been taken to provide modern machinery to Colleges of Technology including Textile Training Centres, which do not have them?
(c) Will she further inform this House —
(i) whether she is aware that there is a shortage of qualified lecturers in Colleges of Technology;
(ii) whether recruitments will be made for the said vacancies; and
(iii) of the manner in which it is ensured that the quality of vocational training education is maintained island-wide at an equal level?
(d) If not, why?
