Hon. M.S. Abthul Wazeeth,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation,— (1)
(a) Will he accept that —
(i) water should be supplied to the farmers of the Pottuvil and Lahugala Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the Ampara District through irrigation projects; and
(ii) the then governments implemented the ‘Heda Oya’ irrigation Project in 2018, 2019 and 2020, spending Rs. 150 million, Rs. 25 million and Rs. 50 million respectively, with the aim of supplying irrigation water to the said farmers?
(b) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the present status of the said project that was implemented with the aim of supplying irrigation water to the farmers residing in the above Divisional Secretariat Divisions; and
(ii) whether steps will be taken to restart the said project, as its implementation would enable farmers residing in the Divisional Secretariat Divisions mentioned in (a)(i) above, to use water for their agricultural activities?
(c) If not, why?
