Hon. M.S. Abthul Wazeeth,— To ask the Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply,— (1)
(a) Is he aware that —
(i) there is a severe scarcity of drinking water in the Pottuvil and Lahugala Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the Ampara District; and
(ii) the then governments implemented the ‘Heda Oya’ Water Supply Project in 2018, 2019 and 2020, spending Rs. 150 million, Rs. 25 million and Rs. 50 million respectively, with the aim of providing a solution to the said scarcity of drinking water?
(b) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the present status of the said project that was implemented as a solution to the scarcity of drinking water; and
(ii) whether steps will be taken to restart the said project, as its implementation would meet the drinking water demand of the residents in the Divisional Secretariat Divisions mentioned in (a) (i) above?
(c) If not, why?
