Hon. Upul Kithsiri,—To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the amount allocated to the Paddy Marketing Board for the purchase of paddy from the year 2020 to 2024, separately for each year;
(ii) of the amount of paddy expected to be purchased by the Paddy Marketing Board in the year 2025 and of the amount allocated to the Paddy Marketing Board for the said purpose, separately;
(iii) whether the government has provided financial and other facilities to private businessmen for purchasing paddy;
(iv) whether a proper mechanism has been prepared to release the amount of paddy purchased by the Paddy Marketing Board to the market; and
(v) whether steps will be taken to prepare an integrated mechanism with the private sector for the purchase of paddy in the upcoming season?
(b) If not, why?
