Hon. Major General (Rtd.) G.D. Sooriyabandara,—To ask the Minister of Environment,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the laws currently in force pertaining to gravel mining in Sri Lanka;
(ii) of the authority responsible for providing recommendations for gravel mining in accordance with the said laws;
(iii) of the authority that grants approval for gravel mining;
(iv) of the authority responsible for supervising the site after the approval is given for gravel mining at a specific location; and
(v) whether steps will be taken to update or amend the existing laws regarding gravel mining in Sri Lanka?
(b) If not, why?
