Hon. Sujeewa Dissanayake,— To ask the Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House of the —
(i) three main export crops of Sri Lanka;
(ii) year in which coconut was declared one of the main export crops;
(iii) number of coconut trees existing in Sri Lanka and the extent of land cultivated in coconuts, separately in hectares; and
(iv) steps taken to increase the coconut harvest of Sri Lanka?
(b) Will he also inform this House of the —
(i) coconut-related industries in operation in Sri Lanka;
(ii) the annual foreign exchange earnings accrued to Sri Lanka from coconut-based products;
(iii) number of factories in Sri Lanka associated with coconut husks with local and foreign ownership, and their main export products and the number of direct and indirect jobs they have created, separately; and
(iv) key problems associated with coconut husks industry?
(c) If not, why?
