Hon. Ajantha Gammeddage,—To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation,— (1)
(a) Will he state —
(i) of the number of tanks and rivers registered with the Irrigation Department separately;
(ii) of the number of tanks maintained by the Irrigation Department;
(iii) of the number of tanks, rivers and canals maintained by the Irrigation Department in the Matara District and their names, separately;
(iv) whether irrigation reserves have been allocated in the Matara and Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat Divisions by the Nilwala River Valley;
(v) whether he is aware that they have been occupied by other parties; and
(vi) if so, whether any legal action has been taken against it?
(b) Will he also state —
(i) of the amount of land acquired for the Nilwala Ganga Project in the Nadugala Grama Niladhari Division of the Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat Division;
(ii) whether compensation has been paid for it;
(iii) whether he is aware that the persons who received compensation have sold the said lands to other parties;
(iv) whether the Nilwala Ganga Project will continue to be implemented; and
(v) if not, whether the acquired lands will be returned to the original owners?
(c) If not, why?
