Hon. Rohitha Abeygunawardhana,— To ask the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House of the —
(i) quantity of rice imported to Sri Lanka since the present government came into power up to now;
(ii) varieties of rice imported;
(iii) amount of tax levied on a kilogram of imported rice;
(iv) total revenue earned from this tax; and
(v) price ceiling of a kilogram of imported rice?
(b) Will he also inform this House —
(i) whether it is expected to import rice in the future;
(ii) of the impact of rice imports on local paddy farmers; and
(iii) of the national course of action that is expected to be implemented in future to minimize rice importation?
(c) If not, why?
