Hon. Chamara Sampath Dasanayake,— To ask the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the quantity of potatoes imported into Sri Lanka annually;
(ii) of the duty levied on imported potatoes;
(iii) whether he is aware that potato harvesting is currently taking place in Nuwara Eliya, Welimada, Uva Paranagama and Haputale areas; and
(iv) therefore, whether measures will be taken to suspend the importation of potatoes into Sri Lanka during the potato harvest season?
(b) If not, why?
