Hon. Ajith Gihan,—To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation,— (1)
(a) Is he aware that —
(i) Kalpitiya can be identified as a region where vegetables and fruits are produced even under adverse environmental conditions; and
(ii) the farmers in the said area are greatly inconvenienced due to the inundation of farmlands and the destruction of crops during the rainy season?
(b) Will he inform this House —
(i) If so, whether steps have been taken to pay compensation to the aforesaid farmers for their crops destroyed due to rain;
(ii) whether there is any arrangement in place to provide the fertilizer subsidy to vegetable and fruit farmers in Kalpitiya; and
(iii) if so, of the said arrangement?
(b) If not, why?
