Question History

Answer

(a)          (i)       Yes. But, some villages are already covered with pipe-borne water supply.

                        Porativu Pattu DS Division:

  • At present, around 80 per cent of the Kakkachiveddai village has been covered. The total number of families living in the pipe-laid area is 345 and out of that, only 196 families have obtained water connections. Others have not applied so far. Further, the balance 3.5 km pipeline has to be laid to cover the uncovered areas of that village, where only 55 families live.
  • Vilanthoddam: One hundred per cent of the areas are covered with pipelines and a number of 213 connections have been given. The total number of families living in the pipe-laid area is 234 and others have not applied for water connections so far.
  • Thikkodai - Dumbalai: It is technically not feasible to extend the existing pipeline. It is proposed to upgrade the upstream system by steps such as pumping and transmission main in order to extend the pipeline.

Manmunai Pattu DS Division:

  • Kirankulam - Dharmapuram: At present, there is no pipeline and a need to extend.

(ii) Steps have been taken to extend the water supply facility to the above areas.

  • Kakkachiveddai Village: The balance 3.50 km pipeline has to be laid to cover the uncovered areas of that village, where only 55 families lilve. The pipe laying is proposed under CEDE Project in 2026.
  • Vilanthoddam - One hundred per cent of the area is covered.
  • Thikkodai - Dumbalai: Without upgrading the upstream system by steps such as pumping and the transmission main, pipeline extension is not feasible. Design works are being carried out for improvement.
  • Kirankulam - Dharmapuram: It is proposed to extend the pipeline under CEDE Project in 2026. Accordingly, bids for supply of pipes are under evaluation and the laying contract document is under preparation. It is expected to complete the above work and supply water to above area by the end of this year.

(b) Not relevant.
