Hon. Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation,— (1)
(a) Will he accept that —
(i) there are 478 small tanks under the Department of Agriculture within the Batticaloa District;
(ii) only less than 200 such tanks are maintained while others go without proper maintenance; and
(iii) the farmers in the area can be empowered if those tanks are restored and maintained?
(b) If so, will he inform this House whether steps will be taken to put to proper maintenance of the above-mentioned tanks which are not properly maintained?
(c) If not, why?
