Hon. Sajith Premadasa,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture,—
(a) Is he aware that a large number of paddy fields coming under the left bank and the right bank projects of Bentara river have become fallow ?
(b) Will he state—
(i) the measures that have been taken to re-cultivate the aforesaid paddy fields under “Api Wawamu-Rata Nagamu” programme; and
(ii) whether the harvest of the aforesaid paddy fields has increased after the re-cultivation programme ?
(c) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether he is aware that the aforesaid paddy fields are destroyed due to the sea water that flows from the Bentara river; and
(ii) whether any step has been taken to avoid the flow of sea water into the paddy fields ?
(d) If not, why ?
