Hon. K. P. S. Kumarasiri,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) the prices of insecticides and weedicides used by farmers for agricultural purposes are very high; and
(ii) such insecticides and weedicides are not of the proper standard?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the reasons for not subjecting the import of insecticides and weedicides to any regulation;
(ii) of the reasons for not taking measures to control their prices;
(iii) whether steps will be taken to raise awareness among farmers on the use of insecticides and weedicides through the agriculture field officers; and
(iv) whether steps will be taken to manufacture agro-chemicals in this country itself?
(c) If not, why?
