Hon. Charles Nirmalanathan,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) there is free insurance coverage for rice, maize, chilies, big onions, soya and potatoes to promote agricultural products in Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Agriculture pays insurance compensation when the crops get destroyed owing to disasters; and
(ii) farmers who grow black gram and peanuts face severe difficulties as such crops have not been covered by the above mentioned insurance coverage?
(b) Will he inform this House whether action will be taken to provide free insurance coverage for black gram and peanuts?
(c) If not, why?
