1616/2023: STATE AND PRIVATE LAND IN MUTHURAJAWELA SANCTUARY: IDENTIFICATION

1616/2023

Hon. Tissa Attanayake,— To ask the Minister of Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation,—

(a) Will she inform this House—

(i) the reasons for not demarcating the physical boundaries of the Muthurajawela Sanctuary which has been declared as a sanctuary through Gazette Notification No. 947/13 of 1996, if such demarcation has not been done; and

(ii) the reasons for not taking measures to separately identify the extents of state owned land and private lands located in the above sanctuary, if measures have not hitherto been taken towards such an  identification?

(b) Will she also inform this House—

(i) the extents of land possessed by the above sanctuary which have been identified through the maps prepared by the government and by the Central Environmental Authority, separately in hectares; and

(ii) the reasons that contribute to the contradiction between the extent of land identified as per the maps prepared by the government and the extent of land identified by the Central Environment Authority?

(c) If not, why?
