567/2020 Hon. W. H. M. Dharmasena,— To ask the Minister of Health,— (a) Will she inform this House whether she is aware that huge amounts of medicine, tablets, injections and creams that change the human skin colour / make the skin colour lighter (whiten) are being sold in Sri Lanka? (b) Will she inform this House of— (i) the regulatory body that regulates the imported medicine among the medicines sold as mentioned earlier; (ii) the law relevant to such regulation? (c) Will she also inform this House— (i) whether she admits that many who prescribe those medicines lack medical knowledge; (ii) whether occurrence of various short term allergies as a result of using such medicine has been reported; (iii) whether attention has been paid to the medical opinion to the effect that dangerous diseases could be caused in the long run as a result of using such medicine; (iv) if so, of the matters disclosed in paying such attention? (d) Will she further inform this House— (i) whether she admits that the use of such medicine should be prevented if it causes adverse effects; (ii) if so, of the measures taken in that regard? (e) If not, why?
