Hon. Shantha Bandara,— To ask the Minister of Wildlife & Forest Conservation,—
(a) Will he admit that human lives are lost and properties are destroyed due to the Human-Elephant conflict that exists in Sri Lanka?
(b) Will he inform this House of—
(i) the number of human deaths that occurred in 2019 as a result of wild elephant attacks, separately with relevance to each province;
(ii) the amount paid as compensation for the loss of a human life at present;
(iii) the total amount paid in 2019 as compensation for damages to property; and
(iv) the measures taken to protect the people from the threat of wild elephants?
(c) If not, why?
