0595/2019: DEVELOPMENT OF GOVERNMENT SECURITIES MARKET: STEPS TAKEN

Hon. (Dr.) Bandula Gunawardana,— To ask the Minister of Finance,—

(a) Will he inform this House —

(i) whether an institution called ‘bond clearance’ office was established for the development of the government securities market in keeping with proposal number 286 of the budget of 2016;

(ii) whether he will explain how the Rs.500 million allocated from the consolidated fund of the government for the establishment of a sales structure under the supervision of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka was utilized;

(iii) of the nature of the behaviour displayed by foreign investors in the government securities market from 2015 to 2017; and of the US Dollar value of investments recalled by them on each of the aforementioned years; and

(iv) of the steps that will be taken to attract foreign investors to the Sri Lankan securities market from year 2018 onwards?

(b) If not, why?
