Parliament Mobile App receives Winner award at “e-Swabhimani 2016” award ceremony

e-swabhimani2016-awardMobile App for Parliament of Sri Lanka was chosen as one of the country’s best e-content applications in the category of Government and Open Data at the ‘e-Swabhimani National Best e-Content Award - 2016’ ceremony organized by the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka which was held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo on October 31st, 2016. This is the first time Parliament Mobile App was recognized as a winner at this competition since being launched in January 2016.

e-Swabhimani is an initiative of the ICTA aimed at recognizing excellence in digital content creation and was launched in 2009. The e-Swabhimani Award process is being conducted along the lines of the World Summit Award. The competition was conducted under different categories and winners were selected after evaluation by the Jurors.

The Jurors’ evaluation reads as follows: “As advancement from what Parliament Secretariat delivered through its website, the mobile app bridges several existing gaps much effectively as an average Sri Lankan is more conversant with mobile based technologies. The Secretariat can effectively use this app to serve parliamentarians and officials. With the propagation of this app, the core businesses of Parliament, including the legislative process has become more open to an average citizen, which has been often confined to a limited number of stakeholders. The navigation convenience and the attractive features has resulted the business of parliament much closer to Parliament’s regular role as well as its daily business. A well-organized documentation system and the trilingual nature of the app contents further enhances inclusiveness and openness, thus the Grand Jury has recognized this app as a Winner.”

Mr. Mahesh Perera, Director, Information Systems & Management of Parliament received the Award from Mr. Kumarasinghe Sirisena, Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom and Mr. Muhunthan Canagey, Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, ICTA.
