Business Passed in the House Today


At the commencement of Public Business today the Hon. Minister of Highways and Road Development and Chief Government Whip of Parliament, on behalf of the Hon. Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Administration and Deputy Minister of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order, presented the following Bills;

1. Finance (Amendment) - Bill to amend the Finance Act, No.5 of 2005.
2. Finance (Amendment) - Bill to amend the Finance Act, No.11 of 2004.
3. Regional Infrastructure Development Levy (Amendment) - Bill to amend the Regional Infrastructure Development Levy Act, No.51 of 2006.
4. Excise (Special Provisions) (Amendment) - Bill to amend the Excise (Special Provisions) Act, No.13 of 1989.
5. Special Commodity Levy - Bill to provide for the imposition of a composite levy on certain specified commodity items in lieu of the amount chargeable on such commodity items as a tax, duty, levy, cess or any other charge in order to overcome the complexities associated with the application and administration of multiple taxes on such specified commodity items; and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Under notice of Motions Hon. Kabir Hashim was granted leave by the House to introduce the following Private Member Bills;

1. “The Al Haj S.M.M. Hussain Charitable Trust”
2. “The Overseas Muslim Educational Trust of Sri Lanka (Incorporation)”
3. “The Zam Trust (Incorporation)”
4. “The Dehiwela, Kawdana Islamic Cultural Foundation (Incorporation)”

In today’s Main Business, the Bill entitled “Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Teaching Hospital (Transfer)” was taken up for Second Reading and passed by the House without amendments.
Thereafter, the Bill entitled “Chemical Weapons Convention (Amendment)” was taken up for Second Reading and passed by the House with amendments.

Hon. Ravindra Samaraweera moved an adjournment motion on the “Injustice caused to Potato cultivators”.

The House was adjourned at 1632 Hrs.
