Business in the House Today


At the Commencement of Public Business, the Hon. Minister of Highways and Road Development and the Chief Government Whip of Parliament on behalf of the Minister of Justice and Law Reforms presented the Bill entitled “Code of Criminal Procedure (Special Provisions)” to provide for the extension of the period of detention of persons arrested without a warrant in order to facilitate the conduct of investigations; for dispensing with the conduct of the non-summary inquiry in certain cases; to provide for the taking of depositions of witness for the prosecution.

Under Notice of Motions, Minister of Highways and Road Development and the Chief Government Whip of Parliament on behalf of the Leader of the House of Parliament moved a motion regarding the Hours of Sitting of the Parliament for today.

Thereafter, the adjournment of House was moved by the Hon. Chief Government Whip.
Hon. Wimal Weerawansa MP moved an adjournment motion to felicitate the war heroes who have liberated Thoppigala.

The House was adjourned at 1610 Hrs until Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 0930 Hrs
