Business in the House Today


At the Commencement of Public Business, the Hon. Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils presented a Bill entitled “Local Authorities (special provisions)” to provide for “calling of fresh nominations and the holding of elections in respect of one Municipal Council and eight Pradeshiya Sabhas in the Eastern Province where elections to such council and Sabhas have been postponed due to unforeseen and urgent circumstances”.

This Bill is urgent in the national interest under Article 122 of the Constitution.

Then the Hon. Leader of the House of Parliament moved a motion to effect that the Second Reading of the Bill would be proceeded with this day and be considered in the Committee of the whole Parliament.

As the main Business the Bill entitled “Local Authorities (special provisions)” was read a second time and passed with amendments thereon with 68 votes in favour and 12 votes against.

The House was adjourned at 1707 Hrs
