Business in the House Today


At the Commencement of Public Business, the Hon. Leader of the House of Parliament moved a motion in respect of the hours of Sitting on the 19th of July, 2007

Then Hon. Gamini Jayawickrema Perera was granted leave by the House to introduce the following Private Member Bills, entitled;

• “Sri Piyarathana Community Development and Social Foundation (Incorporation)”
• “Rev. Moonamale Dhammarathana Memorial Foundation (Incorporation)”

Thereafter, Hon. Tissa Attanayake was granted leave by the House to introduce a Private Member Bill, entitled; “Eksath Janaisuru Padanama (Incorporation)”.

Hon. R.M. Ranjith Madduma Bandara was granted leave by the House to introduce a Private Member Bill entitled; “Centre for Japanese Language Education (Incorporation)”.

In today’s main Business the following items were passed by the House;

• Resolution under Customs Ordinance (Chapter 235)
• Resolution under Appropriation Act No 39 of 2005
• “Food (Labelling and Advertising) “ Regulations 2005
• “Food (Iodization of Salt) “ Regulations 2005
• “Food (Bottled and Packaged) “ Regulations 2005
• “Food (Irradiation) “ Regulations 2005
• Motion for appointment of a Select Committee of Parliament to look into the difficulties, which Sri Lankan migrant workers have to face.

Further, Notification under Excise Ordinance (Chapter 52) (Excise Notification 888) scheduled as Item No 21 of today’s Order Paper was withdrawn with leave of House by the Hon. Leader of the House of Parliament.

A Motion at the Adjournment time was moved thereafter by Hon. M. Joseph Michael Perera, regarding the inconvenience of Fishermen due to the increase in the fuel price.

The House was adjourned at 1633 Hrs until 1300 Hrs of Thursday, July 19, 2007.
