Business in the House Today


At the commencement of Public Business the Honourable Chief Government Whip on behalf of the Minister of Tourism presented a Bill entitled “Ceylon Hotels Corporation (Repeal)” to provide for the taking over of the functions of the Ceylon Hotels Corporation by a public company incorporated for that purpose; and to repeal the Ceylon Hotels Corporation Act, No.14 of 1966; and for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto.

Under the Notice of Motions, the Honourable Leader of the House of Parliament moved a Business Motion and a Time Motion.

Thereafter the Hon. M. Joseph Michael Perera the Chief Opposition Whip, moved 11 Privilege Motions seconded by Hon. Sarath Chandra Rajakaruna.

The main business for this day was the debate on the Resolution under the Public Security Ordinance.

The Emergency Motion was passed with a majority of 98 votes, extending it for another month. 114 votes were cast in favour of the motion while 16 votes were against it.

The House was adjourned at 1700 Hrs.
