Elections (Special Provisions) (Amendment)
The Hon. Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare moved the Bill to provide a totally visually impaired person to be accompanied by a person when voting at elections; and to amend the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance (Chapter 262), the Parliamentary Elections Act, No.1 of 1981, the Referendum Act, No.7 of 1981, the Presidential Elections Act, No.15 of 1981 and the Provincial Councils Elections Act, No.2 of 1988; and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
The Hon. (Mrs.) Nirupama Rajapaksa was granted leave to introduce the following Bills:-
1. Institute of Martial Arts (Incorporation)
2. Institute of Applied Statistics, Sri Lanka (Incorporation)

Resolution under the Public Security Ordinance
Resolution moved by the Hon. Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Administration and Deputy Minister of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order that the Proclamation made by the President under Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40), as amended by Act, No. 8 of 1959, Law No. 6 of 1978, and Act, No. 28 of 1988, bringing into operation the provisions of Part II of the aforesaid Ordinance throughout Sri Lanka with effect from 02nd October 2009, was approved.
Accordingly, the Emergency debate was passed by Parliament with a majority of 70 votes, extending it for another month. 82 votes were cast in favour of the motion while 12 votes were against it.
The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1630 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Friday 09th October 2009.
