Presentation of Bills
“National Housing Development Authority (Special Provisions)”
The Minister of Housing and Common Amenities, presented the Bill to make special provisions to enable Officers and Servants who were employed in the Department of National Housing and who were subsequently employed by the National Housing Development Authority, to be eligible for the grant of a pension; and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
“Foundation of Rural Workers and Allied Rural Resources Development (Incorporation)”
Hon. Ranjith Aluvihare was granted leave to introduce the Bill.
Main Business of the House for Today
Resolution that the Proclamation made by the President under Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40), as amended by Act, No. 8 of 1959, Law No. 6 of 1978, and Act, No. 28 of 1988, bringing into operation the provisions of Part II of the aforesaid Ordinance throughout Sri Lanka with effect from 02nd April 2008, was approved.
Accordingly, the Emergency debate was passed by Parliament with a majority of 78 votes, extending it for another month. 93 votes were cast in favour of the motion while 15 votes were against it.
Regulations,
i. under Sections 29 and 155 of the Army Act (Chapter 357);
ii. under Section 161 of the Navy Act (Chapter 358); and
iii. under Sections 29 and 155 of the Air Force Act (Chapter 359),
were passed by Parliament.
The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1708 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Tuesday 6th May 2008.
