Notice of Presentation of Bills
The Leader of the House of Parliament on behalf of the Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs, moved the Bill entitled “School Teachers Pension (Amendment)” to amend the School Teachers Pension Act, No. 44 of 1953.
The Leader of the House of Parliament on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, moved the Bill entitled “Marine Pollution Prevention” to provide for the Prevention, Control and Reduction of Pollution in the territorial waters of Sri Lanka or any other Maritime Zone and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
Hon. (Ven.) Udawatte Nanda Thero was granted leave to introduce the Bill entitled “Sri Sumangala Saranaseva Foundation (Incorporation)”.
Hon. (Ven.) Akmeemana Dayarathana Thero was granted leave to introduce the Bill entitled “Adam’s Peak Kalpawruksha Development Foundation (Incorporation)”.
Mrs. Priyanee Wijesekera, the former Secretary General of Parliament was invited by the Hon. Speaker with the permission of the House to enter the Chamber and take her seat at the Table.
The Leader of the House of Parliament, together with the Leader of the Opposition moved the Vote of Appreciation on Secretary General of Parliament, that Mr. Speaker be requested to convey to Mrs. Priyanee Wijesekera on her retirement from the Office of the Secretary General of Parliament, an expression of the deep sense of appreciation, of this Parliament of the valuable services performed by her as Research Officer, Assistant Secretary-General. Deputy Secretary-General and Secretary-General of Parliament over a period of 16 years, particularly, in regard to her wide knowledge of parliamentary procedures and practices; their sincere thanks for the assistance and advice given by her and their recognition of the unswerving dedication with which she has discharged her responsibilities and the noteworthy contribution she has made to the several Associations of Parliamentarians both within, as well as, outside the Commonwealth.
Main Business of the House for Today
The Hon. Leader of the House of Parliament on behalf of the Hon. Minister of Environment and Natural Resources moved the Bill entitled, “Environment Conservation Levy” for Second Reading and it was passed by Parliament with amendments.
The Order under Section 14(1) of the Sri Lanka Export Development Act, No.40 of 1979, and the motion was passed by Parliament.
The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1425 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Wednesday 09th April 2008.
